Practical and cute winter boot
December 24, 2012
Reviewer: Mel from Chicago, IL
Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width Living in Chicago and commuting mostly on foot and via public transit, I need boots for winter months that are practical (i.e. low heel, good tread, insulated) and comfortable. Finding a pair that is also stylish and doesn't make me look like I will be going on a hike or trekking through the Arctic tundra has been quite a challenge, but the North Face Snowtropolis (in beige) has come through brilliantly! The boots are sufficiently insulated with very soft fleece, so not only are they comfortable but also warm enough - without wearing super thick socks - to stand up to most winter temps. I haven't worn them in nasty rainy/slushy/snowy conditions yet, so I can't speak to the water resistance, but the tread is really solid so I don't imagine any "grip issues" in the snow. In terms of fit, I have very long, narrow feet and average/athletic calves. I get a tiny bit of slippage at the heel when wearing thinner socks, but not anything that's uncomfortable or problematic. I have long legs and really like the height of the boots, but someone with very short legs may have a slight issue with the boots hitting too close to the knee. Finally, despite having a little bit of a "Star Wars storm trooper" aspect to them, the Snowtropolis boots do look cute - one time I wore them with colorful knee socks and a sweater dress and received a number of compliments. These are a great buy! Wears this shoe: Commuting, at work, casual outings
