I highly recommend goretex liners on any boots you plan to use in wet conditions. My past pairs have lasted about 2 years on average with heavy mileage. I'm always amazed at their comfort and durability. I'm also very glad I discovered these boots years ago. I wear them whenever I can, whether it be working, hiking, camping, socially. The way they're designed, sometimes it's as though they do the walking for you. I've tried on other comparable boots and they just don't stack up to Asolo's. They are my brand and I will continue to purchase them in the future. A solid, high-performing hiking boot w/ a lacing system that can easily be adjusted through the entire boot w/ minimal effort. It's a heavy duty hiking boot and can be used for backpacking as well. It's lighter than I expected for the support you get. I probably didn't need a new pair of hiking boots, I mean hiking boots are hard to truly wear out, but like most other things in life, the advances in technology, materials and design sometimes make it worth upgrading. Enjoy the outdoors. You adjust the width with ease. The leather is excellent quality. The worksmanships is excellent. I added a green Super-Feet arch support, I have narrow feet and that helped make them fit me better. It is a nice boot. Comfortable and kept my feet dry. The leather seemed slightly flawed however it does not seem to affect the performance so far. Leather is slightly bowed out where it should not be. The lacing system is nice, and they are warm Wears this shoe: for work 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Reviewer: D. Kessler from Upstate New York Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width This boot, like all Asolos, is well-constructed. I purchased a W width in order to be able to wear heavy socks during winter wear. Normally, I wear Medium width. The shoes are comfortable, but they are a great deal heavier than I expected. Consequently, I cannot wear the boots for more than a couple of hours of outdoor use. If I had known they were so heavy, I would not have purchased them. He resisted because he didn't think a week in advance would not be sufficient time to break them in. But he liked them--he really liked them. So, he wore them to the office and on local hikes. No problems, no pressure points, no worries. He is now hiking in his new boots on Mt. Rainier with no complaints! Now these are a serious hiking boot that has excellent support under heavy pack loads. I bought these boots because i'm sick and tired of my Sundowners. I know all the hype surrounding Sundowners, but in practice I just don't think they are a good backpacking boot (perhaps a good hiking boot). Asolo makes a beautiful boot. Detail everywhere. Asolo cares about your feet and also their reputation so they make a very well put together boot. The Vibram sole STICKS to angled rock and roots, ok, maybe not STICKS, but dependable grip you can count on. I basically wore these right out of the box on a 4 night backpacking trip in the Catskills and had Zero problems. I was so prepaired for blisters, but not one! The lacing system is great and makes lacing up a quick thought. The boots seriously feel like a (heavy) pair of sneakers. I love them. They are a bit pricey compared to alot of other brands, but in the boot business you absolutely get what you pair for. I would definetly recommend these boots to any backpackers who would love just to finally get THAT boot, the perfect balance of fit, weight, grip, long life and style. Don't skimp on your feet, they will love you for it. Also the boots breathed great and my feet stayed totally dry. It's funny, with some boots Gore Tex is the big selling point, but with these boots its just one of the things that makes this boot awesome. Not out of the box comfortable as some have said. Toe box is somewhat narrow (10 W) and heel is little too wide for my foot. Footbed is the throw away type. Slip in some superfeet insoles and the boot fit/feel is very good. Micro pully system works great. It needed to be leather, gortex, comfortable and easy to clean. This Asolo boot fits the bill. I tried a similar boot from Merrell (the Switchback) and there is no comparison. The Asolo is a much better built boot, and lighter too. On my first hike I went 5 miles, with no blisters or discomfort. I walked through muck up to near the laces and later easily cleaned the boots to new condition. I have since added a couple coats of Sno Seal to futher protect them from water. In addition the Powermatic 200's are stylish and look good. I've worn them to work on casual day. I give these boots my highest recommendation.
