Women's slip on shoes of Spanish origin that traditionally have a woven fabric (usually canvas) upper, a flexible sole woven from rope or jute, and a strap that ties around the ankles. Other versions of espadrilles may have leather uppers and an adjustable ankle strap (instead of a tie strap).
