Women's slip on shoes of Spanish origin that traditionally have a wovenfabric (usually canvas) upper, a flexible sole woven from rope or jute, and a strap that ties around the ankles. Other versions of espadrilles may have leather uppers and an adjustable ankle strap (instead of a tie strap).

I like them - they run pretty narrow and I have a narrow foot - great height of heel for folks with back issues like me. I'm just not sure yet about the style - seems a bit old ladyish but I may get used to them - probably cute with capris, etc.
