The term comfortable, as employed in the footwear industry, refers to footwear specially designed to provide adequate foot support or relief from discomfort when walking or running. The signature features of comfortable footwear are padded footbeds, broader toe boxes, contoured footbeds that follow the shape of the foot, shorter heel heights, flexible soles, greater arch support, polyurethane outer soles, and in some cases, rubber nubs on the soles to increase traction.

I tried the Earthies Ensenada in the black calf, unsuccessfully. I have a slightly wide foot, but wear shoes in a medium width. Yet this shoe was tight, both at the toe and the instep. I do not have a high instep. Also, I wear an 8.5 or 9 shoe, ordered the 9, and they are too short. I squeezed my toes into the too narrow toe area, reached the front of the shoe, and could only barely zip up the back zipper on the shoe. From my experience, this shoe is a half size short, but these are my first Earthies brand. I couldn't appreciate the arch support because the arch of the shoe was too far forward for my foot. Basically nothing about this shoe works for me, and I returned them.To those considering a purchase, I call attention to the shape of the toe area; it is pointed. My feet are a bit more square at the toe.

I would totally recommend this shoe. I've only worn it twice now, but I got multiple compliments on it both times. It is also quite comfortable overall. It feels like it is softly cradling your entire foot. There IS some serious arch support in there, though, and I'm still aware of it as a little bump under my arch, but it seemed more obvious when I first put it on, so hopefully it will continue to become less noticeable. The shoe is totally stylish, goes with so much, feels sturdy, and is obviously really well-made. Love it!
