The high, curved part of the foot between the heel and the ball. Also refers to the raised part of the insole of a shoe that supports the arch of the foot.
Cushioned shoes, or neutral cushioning shoes, are shoes designed for runners with normal to high arches who tend to underpronate. Cushioning shoes generally have a padded midsole with layers of extra cushioning in the heel and forefoot that provide better energy return to the body when compressed while helping absorb heel shock and encouraging a more natural foot motion.
Insoles are foot-shaped pieces of material that are inserted in footwear to give extra comfort and support to the foot. Insoles may also function to assist in the proper fitting of shoes.
